Daniel Brooks Hohein, 80 of Stephens City Va, died peacefully at home on February 17 after a long illness. He never gave in, saying he was “Awesome” and he would beat it. He was an example for all of us to keep fighting, and to live each day to the fullest.
Born in Fairfax, VA., Daniel (Danny) is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Mary Kay in 1988. He is survived by his children, Gail 47, Scott 45 ( Ann Marie ) Steven 41 (Amy ) and Brian 38. He
was also blessed with four grandchildren, Kaylee, Anthony, Jordan and Natalie. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Dewey, 88 of Woodbridge VA. and pre-deceased by his brother, Billy Hohein.
Danny, a long-time Arlington resident, was well known in the banking community beginning at the Clarendon Trust Company and spanning a career of almost forty years in management. He was an active member in his local Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club of Northern Virginia. He received many awards throughout his profession and enjoyed following in his father’s footsteps who also had a long career in banking. He loved coaching little league, and cooking. He enjoyed being the dad with all the stories and jokes, for which there were many.
After the death of his wife, he devoted his life to making sure his kids had what they needed, and never complained about working two jobs or being there for anything they needed.
He had one of the best-looking gardens in the community and took pride in his painting and landscaping skills. After retirement, he was a private investigator and worked briefly in security.
Danny was a huge baseball fan and was proud of his baseball card collection. He had a story for each one and was fortunate to meet and become friends with a few of the professional athletes he admired.
He loved dogs and will forever be remembered for his gentle nature and sweet sense of humor.
A Celebration of Danny’s life is being planned and more information will follow when arrangements are completed.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148. A charity he has always supported.
