Cynthia Anne Long, age 89, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Evergreen Health & Rehab Center.

Cynthia was born on November 19, 1936, in Syracuse, Kansas, to the late Albert Mickey James and Rowena (Lockridge) James. She pursued her love of history and community through her work as a Historical Interpreter in Colonial Williamsburg, sharing her knowledge and passions with countless visitors over the years. She will be remembered for her joy and wit throughout her life. We will be forever grateful to the staff of Unit 4 at the Evergreen Health & Rehab Center for their love and care for Cynthia for the last 3 years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Long, and her daughter, Melissa Etchberger.
Cynthia’s legacy lives on through her family. She is survived by her son, Michael Long, and his wife, Denise, of Winchester, VA; her four cherished grandchildren, Madeline Louise Long, Waverly Anne Long, Chloe Elizabeth Long, and Julia Lee Long. She shared her love of native plants and birds with the Virginia Native Plant Society and the Williamsburg Bird Club as well as with her loving son-in-law Jimmy Etchberger and his wife Joan, both of whom cared for her and her husband Robert after the death of their daughter Melissa. A private service will be held in Williamsburg in September.
