Courtney L. Lowe
Courtney Lee Lowe, 88, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, April 11, 2011, in Winchester.
Mr. Lowe was born in 1922, in Stephens City, Virginia, the son of the late John Lester and Mary Lusettie Lowe. He was employed with ABEX in the Quality Control Department retiring in July 1981 after 25 years of service. Mr. Lowe was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winchester and a member of UAW Local 149 where he was a former secretary. Mr. Lowe was also a member of the Isaak Walton League, and was active in numerous bowling leagues and formerly active in horseshoe pitching. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. He served in Belgium, Germany, France, and in the Battle of the Bulge.
He married Clara A. Clark on April 14, 1949, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Debbie Thweatt and her husband, Rickie of Winchester, Virginia, son, Steven C. Lowe of Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Timothy C. Thweatt; two step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Lowe Bly of Stephens City, Virginia, Lenora Lowe Bennington of Kernstown, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews and family. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted on 11:00 on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Will White officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia. Military Honors will be afforded by VFW Post 2123.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
