"A life lived with purpose" could not be more true about Corey. I had the pleasure of working with Corey on Havertys' Corporate Training Team for 5 or 6 years. Corey was one of the most conscientious and purposeful people I've ever met. He thought deeply and made sure that he believed in everything he did. His concern for his work product and his trainees was unparalleled. Going above and beyond the call of duty was the norm for Corey, not the exception. He inspired me to be more purposeful in everything we did and always challenged me and our team to improve things. Corey was an extremely intelligent man with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that I always enjoyed. He also cared about his colleagues deeply. Even during Corey's illness, he always asked about how I and my family were doing when we touched based every week or two. I'm very thankful that Corey helped me become a better co-worker, manager, and friend. His conscientiousness, purposefulness, and desire to do things the best he possibly could will be missed and leave a lasting impact on all of us. Corey will always be irreplaceable on our team. Rest in peace my friend.

Corey was part of my life and my Family. for 7 yrs of my life he was responsible for all the good memories he left in me and my parents .Words can not express how deep my heart is broken. My parents has him as a SON and he will forever be in their hearts and mine. Corey was kind ,gentle ,funny ,humble ,smart and many other qualities that every human being should have .Even on my last week with him he was strong enough to talk about the past and the future and share happy memories and moments together. NOTHING WILL NEVER be the same without you . We love you to eternity ... until we meet again. ALWAYS IN MY MIND AND HEART .

Corey is my friend. His friendship and guidance was always sincere and without expectation. His sense of humor was both timely and unique. He could find a smile in anyone. I was leading the Washington market when we hired Corey as a Manager Treainee. It was quickly evident that Corey had excellent leadership skills and he moved into store leadership in the Washington Market. It was in his role as a Corporate Trainer that Corey really hit his stride. His ability to quickly connect with people and relay stories to help them learn was one of his great skills. He has friends all over the Havertys network and his work will live on in others. Rest in peace Corey.
Michael W Twitty left a message on November 17, 2020:

Corey was my manager at the Dulles Havertys. I had the pleasure of working with him for a few years. His sense of humor was unmatched. We both had a love for travel and shared our adventures. I spoke to Corey a month ago and his words that will always stay with me were "Stay stylish, crazy and ALWAYS HAVE THE NEXT TRIP PLANNED". In May he sent me a picture of himself and I said, looking good. To which he relied "I was always good with photoshop LOL". You will be missed and always remembered my friend for the way you made me laugh. May God give you comfort.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

I had never met anyone like Corey before, and I’m certain I won’t be lucky enough to meet anyone like him again. It makes me all the more grateful to have had him in my life for the last six years. We met at work. I went to watch him train a class of new salespeople. He was so confident, funny, compelling. When he told a story about his grandmother to make a point about connecting with people, he made us all cry. All of us. I loved and respected him immediately. Corey was so good. Good at his job, good at taking pictures, good at making you laugh, good at being a friend. He knew he was good, and yet he never stopped working to be better. He had high expectations for himself, the kind that made you want to be better, too. He was the kind of person who poured 100% of himself into everything he did, especially when it came to helping others. He measured his success by others’ success, and it made you want to do better for him. I never wanted to let him down. He was the kind of friend who would tell me I was brilliant…and also that I had something in my teeth. Thank you for the feedback, Corey (and the floss). I am better because I knew you. All the love.
Ryan Rufenacht left a message on November 17, 2020:
So sad to hear. Corey was one of the few great mentors I have had with Havertys and he is one of the main reasons I have had success with this company. I had Corey on speed dial during my first few years as a manager. My thoughts go out to your family during this terrible time.

Corey, there are so many memories with you over the past 45 years! From being friends since the 1st grade, so many elementary school moments, High School Spanish class and being on the Debate Team together, working our 1st (UFCW) and 2nd (Montgomery Ward) jobs together, hanging out when we both lived near each other in Maryland in our 20s and you just somehow appearing (like at the Ravens' Stadium while I was in the band) in my life when I least expected it. You helped me grow up and I'm a better man because of you. It's hard to believe your are gone but your mark on this World won't be forgotten! Rest in Peace my Friend!
Daniel Greco left a message on November 16, 2020:
Corey would not want me to be sad, he would want me to celebrate his life. Corey was a man full of life and energy. From the first time I met him here at Haverty's I knew he was special. So many times when I speak to Managers that knew he was coming to their store to train, they were stressed out. I told them that Corey isn't like that. He is a positive coach. If your not great at something he is going to help you get better and support you through the process. He was funny and quick witted. I loved taking time to ask him how life was going and share personal stories when we saw each other. It is a great loss to all of us he leaves behind, yet a great win to have had time with him during our life. I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Thank you Corey for letting me be part of your life. Daniel Greco

As a corporate trainer, Corey made a huge impact on many Havertys employees. His upbeat training sessions were extremely engaging with just the right mix of humor and a serious tone. It was impossible to forget invaluable lessons he taught us during his sales training sessions. My greatest take away quote from him that I always keep in the back of my mind before I greet a customer is, "We never charge toward or chase down the customer, we greet them from the side." RIP Corey.

Corey and I were colleagues together at Haverty’s. When I first was hired on, he found me sitting quietly outside a crowd of people at a work event, sat down and knew just the right words to say to make me feel welcomed, comfortable and already a part of the team. Over the years, he and I spent many days and weeks traveling together, doing manager training. I cherish the deep friendship that flourished from all those hours I got to spend with him both in and outside of work. Corey was one of kind. His wit couldn’t be outmatched, was so thoughtful and caring, passionate about things he loved and believed in, and could always make you laugh. I grieve for those of us that have to continue on without him, but rejoice in knowing where he is now. I send my sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy’s to his parents. He spoke of you often and know he is looking down upon y’all now.

A Life Lived with Purpose for sure. Corey and I were coworkers and quickly began a friendship that lasted for years. One of my favorites was Corey’s ability to capture beauty in any object with his photographs. When he went on vacations he would share his photographs. By the time I finished looking at them I felt like I had been there as well. He seldom took photos of people. He said that was deliberate. There are so many good memories that I will cherish. Corey you will be missed and remembered. Rest In Peace my friend.

My deepest sympathies for the Proffitt family. I met Corey when he was a Manager at Havertys prior to him taking the role of Corp Trainer. It was a privilege watching him truly care, coach and encourage all he came in contact. Corey would love to catch you in a turn of phrase. I asked him while he was visiting our store in Charlotte to call me at work the following week but used the phrase”give me a ring next week” which he responded, “I’m not ready for that type of a commitment.” He would shared his love of photography and travel stories which brighten my day. He was a delight. So glad for his peace, so grieved by his loss.
