My deepest sympathies to Anny, sweet Willis, to the Nichols and Irons families, and to the myriad of Clint’s friends. To have lost such a spectacular person like Clint is truly devastating. I think every day is a new emotion - shock, confusion, anger, deep sadness. However heartbreaking of a loss, I think also of the immeasurable gains - as anyone who interacted with Clint was better after doing so. His magnetic personality, the love and pride he showed (for his beloved family and friends, for our tiny hometown of Winchester, VA, for Roanoke College, for the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, for our country), for the way he brought joy into whatever room he inhabited, and to his strong belief in giving back to the community and others - thank you Clint. We have ALL gained - from the brightest and most amazing soul.

I am so sorry for your loss. Clint was an amazing young man. Looking back it seems we often had difficulty getting home from youth trips. When the Suburban broke down coming from Winter Celebration, Clint led us in song. We made up our own words riding in the back of a utility van. Then coming home from the National Youth Gathering we missed our flight along with a full 15 passenger van of miserable adults from who knows where. Clint led us in song and laughter and every person was in a much better place at the end of the ride. He was already an amazing man at 18.

Both my daughters live in Richmond and Saturday I got a call from my youngest daughter, Allie Maddox. She was devastated and told me Clint had passed away. She had just seen him last week. She went on to say even though he was much older( 7 years) he always spoke to her & was interested in her life. He didn’t just know her as Christy’s sister ...he always called her by name. Then Christy called, devastated too. We talked about his character, his friendliness & politeness...a true gem. Christy remembered when Clint lived next to her Aunt Chris on Tennyson Ave, & how when we’d go there she’d immediately run over to Clint’s to play Later Clint would tell the story to everyone how Christy would just run in, no knocking & find Clint. They would laugh & laugh over that. He will be missed. What a wonderful kid he was & what a fine young man!
