Claudia Louise “Nanny” Hahn Brinckmann, 90, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Brinckmann was born in 1924, in Astonia, Long Island, New York, the daughter of the late George and Louise A. Hahn. She was a graduate of Plainfield High School, in New Jersey. Mrs. Brinckmann was a retired Telephone Operator with Bell Telephone Company. She was an avid member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
She will be well-remembered as a Girl, Cub, Brownie and Webelo Scout leader, as well as for the wonderful patchwork quilts and crocheted baby blankets that she made for friends and family. Mrs. Brinckmann loved her dogs, Cassidy the Rottweiler and Rox-a-Dawg the German Shepherd. She loved to bake and cook, a love she passed on to her son. Mrs. Brinckmann enjoyed listening to music. Her passion was big band music, which allowed her to share memories and stories of her time in New York City, especially during WWII when she danced with the service men. She was part of a Civil Patrol in her community of Plainfield making sure all the lights were out during the War.
Mrs. Brinckmann loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a very active member of her church.
She married John Henry Brinckmann on June 4, 1950, in Plainfield, New Jersey and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2004.
Surviving is her son, Ricky Brinckmann of Winchester, who was blessed to have been adopted at three and half months by the most caring and wonderful parents anyone could ask for; daughter, Lisa Reick and husband, Al, of Edison, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Kyle Shukis and Becky Shukis; great grandson, Everett Shukis; brother-in-law, Harold Bru and Mr. Brinckmann’s surviving sister, Ruth Byrn and husband, Ed, of North Brunswick, New Jersey.
Three sisters, Josephine Hahn, Elsie Hahn, Henrietta Bru, and one brother, George Hahn, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in the sanctuary with Reverend Dr. Dan McCoig officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
