Charles R. Dixon, Jr.
Charles R. Dixon, Jr., 77, of Winchester, Virginia, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Dixon was born in 1936 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the son of the late Charles Roy Dixon Sr. and Cletus B. Dixon. He earned his Metallurgical Engineering degree from the University of Kentucky
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan A. Dixon; a son, Charles B. “Chuck” Dixon (Deborah) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a daughter, Karen Sue Dixon of Phoenix, Arizona; a grandson, Charles Roy Dixon, III of Chesapeake, Virginia; and three sisters, Billie Sue Jernigan of Sanford, North Carolina, Judy Cutts of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Martha Hatch of Apex, North Carolina.
Mr. Dixon worked 31 years for Amsted Industries and for the last 13 years of his career he was the Plant Manager for American Steel Foundries, Alliance, Ohio. He was a community leader, having served on the boards of Rodman Public Library, Alliance City Hospital, Mt. Union College, and Stark County Technical College. He also served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the United Way.
After retiring, the Dixons moved to Bluffton, South Carolina where he was an active member of Bluffton United Methodist Church; active in United Methodist Men’s Club, Chairman of Pastor/Parish Relations Committee and a member of the Chancel Choir.
In February 2013 the Dixons moved to Winchester to The Village at Orchard Ridge.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Orchard Ridge on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 11:00 AM with Reverend George Sims officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the gathering area at the Chapel.
