Charles L. “Chuck” Stadel
Charles Leroy “Chuck” Stadel, 88, of Maurertown, Virginia (formerly of Staunton, VA), died Saturday, May 17, 2014, at home in the presence of family.
Mr. Stadel was born 1925, at home in Carlton Township, Barry County, Michigan, the son of the late Roy E. and Maude Stadel. He grew up as a hard working farmer’s son and learned ingenuity at a very young age.
After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Chuck graduated from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1950 where he had become Treasurer of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He lived and worked for years in Hastings, Michigan where he and his wife Betty raised their 5 children.
After holding many key positions in business accounting with multiple companies in Oklahoma, Michigan and elsewhere, Chuck relocated to Clarksburg, WV in the 1970s where he remarried. Chuck and his wife Virginia later relocated to Staunton, VA where he would eventually retire as a comptroller and financial officer with Fisher Auto Parts.
He and his late wife Virginia were members of Cherryvale United Methodist Church in Staunton where they very much enjoyed fellowship, service and friendship with brothers and sisters in Christ.
Until sustaining a serious injury in his later years, Chuck was an accomplished pilot, woodworker, and marksman. He shared his knowledge and skills as an instructor with many along the way. His interest in aviation and responsible marksmanship were very strong, all of his life.
Preceding him in death were Chuck’s first wife Billie Jean Stadel of Tulsa, Oklahoma, second wife Betty Christene Rule, of Michigan, third wife, Nellie Badder of Michigan and Etta Virginia Weaver Stadel of Maurertown, VA who recently passed in January 2014; his brother-in-law Leo Francisco.
He is survived by his two sisters, Genevieve Francisco and Eleanor Barry, and husband Norman; brothers, Robert Stadel and wife, Marsha of Lake Odessa, Michigan and John Dean Stadel and wife Ruth, of Freeport, Michigan; daughter, Patricia Ann Stadel; sons, Robert Dean Stadel, Richard Charles Stadel, and Roy Allen Stadel of Hastings, Michigan and Norman Albert Stadel of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his stepson, David Weaver and wife Cora, of Maurertown, Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Weaver and wife, Nina, of Garner, North Carolina, Amanda Weaver of Garner, North Carolina, and great-granddaughters, Julia and Lauren Weaver of Garner, North Carolina.
Chuck’s humility, patience and strength of character were always to be admired and are a lasting example in the hearts of those that know and love him.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 31 at Maurertown Brethren Church, Maurertown, Virginia, with Pastor Richard Craver officiating.
