Charles “Charlie” Joseph Menefee, Sr., 89, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, November 2, 2018, at The Willows of Meadow Branch.
Mr. Menefee was born in 1929, at Oak Hill, Rileyville, Page County, Virginia, the son of the late Fannie Louise and Franklin Thomas Menefee. He was a builder of custom homes in the Northern Virginia area for 25 years before moving to Winchester in 1974. He continued his craft until retirement 10 years ago. Mr. Menefee was known for his excellence and the quality of the homes he built, as well as his honesty, ethics and willingness to help others. He was a member and former Trustee of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Menefee was a charter member of Top of Virginia Builders Association, a member of the Optimus Club in Vienna, Virginia, and had volunteered to help rebuild after natural disasters.
He married Gloria Ruth Miller on September 2, 1950, in Rockville, Maryland, and was happily married for 63 years until her death on May 18, 2014.
Surviving are three sons, Charles J. Menefee, Jr. and wife, Mary Kay of Winchester, Virginia, Jeffrey S. Menefee of Stephens City, Virginia and Edward D. Menefee and wife, Robin of Stephens City, Virginia; four grandchildren, Stephen Menefee and wife, Chelsea, Cara Menefee Snyder and husband, Shawn, Joseph Menefee and wife, Brenna and Lauren Menefee Morris and husband, John; four great grandchildren, Emmy Kay Snyder, Melina Snyder, Susanna Snyder and Levi Menefee; sisters, Jeanette Cummins of Lynchburg, Virginia, Harriet Showalter of Greenville, South Carolina, Fay Keenan of Strasburg, Virginia and brother, Hanson Menefee of Luray, Virginia.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Menefee was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Susan Menefee, three brothers, Thomas, Garland, and Bobby Menefee, and four sisters, Geneva Steed, Virginia Lentz, Mary Ann Cullers, and Naomi Craddock.
Charlie’s family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude for the exemplary care that was shown to him during his time at The Willows at Meadow Branch, as well as the special care he received from Blue Ridge Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend David Blevins officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
