Catherine Elizabeth Sullivan, 79 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.

Catherine was born in 1945 in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Eugene and Dorothy Lofton. She was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1964. Catherine worked as a photographer for Sullivan’s Studios and retired as a Teacher’s Aide from the Special Education Department at Handley High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. Catherine was a member of the Lions Club, Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, Women of the Moose 1367 and Handley 100th Anniversary Committee. She loved doing crafts, paint by numbers and she crafted many unique items every year for the Apple Blossom Store. Catherine was very passionate about her special education students and every year she would host an after-prom breakfast at her home. While she and her husband operated Sullivan’s Studio they photographed numerous weddings, school students, senior portraits, sports teams, family photos, etc.

She married Laurence Edward Sullivan on November 25, 1965, in Winchester, VA.

Catherine is survived by her husband, daughter, Anne L. Sullivan (Jason Morgan), son, Corey S. Sullivan, grandson, Marcus Bannister, sister, Genie Searcy (Marty), brother, Larry Lofton (Barbara) and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Catherine is preceded in death by her brother, Tommy “Krab” Lofton.

A visitation will be held for Catherine on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm with a service to be conducted on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Scared Heart Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Judd Lofton, Jensen “Logan” Lofton, Edward Downing, Stephan Johnson, Adam Clendenen, Kevin Patton, Ronnie Ward, Dwayne “Truck” Borden. The honorary pallbearer will be Brian Kaval.

Cookie will be missed by all who knew her. She always had a smile on her face and a ready laugh.

I'm thankful that I met Cookie 3 years ago, and even though it wasn't a long time, her presence, friendship and high heart will last me a lifetime. Cookie you were the sweetest lady I've crossed paths with and you blessed many folks while you were on earth and you will continue to bless us as you depart this world. Reunite with your loved ones and fly high with the Angels! Even though we will miss you down here, those there will have you back with them. Fly High Cookie. See you on the other side. :(

I first met Cookie in my backyard as my house abuts her house. We talked over the fence almost daily. Introduced our dogs to each other and watched them trying to figure out if they were friends or foes. They were friends! I loved our fence talks and looked forward to seeing her pretty much every day. She will be in my heart forever. God Speed! Love Cindi

Cookie was a beautiful woman. She loved people. She had a special place in her heart for our “special kids” mine included. Every time she would see me she’d ask about Tyler, Years after he graduated from Handley. She and some other wonderful people made sure our kids got to attend prom and even had them at her house for breakfast afterwards. She would clap and stomp because Ty enjoyed it. So Ms Cookie “stomp, stomp, clap, clap from Tyler. He loved you dearly. You will be missed. Our condolences to her family and others that loved her.

Cookie was a force in this world for good and she will be greatly missed. Love to her family and thank you for sharing Cookie with us. I worked with Cookie at Handley for 9 years and she was in my classroom daily for the last 5 years I worked there. She was a source of constant fun, laughter and love for us and for our students. I have so many stories that make me smile. It has been a joy these past years seeing her at the Kiwanis Christmas event with my elementary students. She will ever be forgotten and her love lives on through all the lives she has touched.

Larry, Anne, & Corey… I send my heartfelt condolences to each of you. I simply adored Cookie as did my family. She was a terrific lady and will never be forgotten.
