Catherine Douglas Duvall Swimley
Catherine Douglas Duvall Swimley, 94, of Winchester, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Swimley, was born in 1916, the daughter of the late Roy Perrin and Mamie Nevitte Duvall. She was a Lifelong member and Saint of Burnt Factory United Methodist Church of Stephenson, Virginia, where she was a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. She was a clothes salesperson with Bells and Leggetts of Winchester, Virginia. She was a graduate of Handley High School, class of 1934.
Her husband, William Tanquary Swimley, Sr., whom she married on July06, 1941, in Frederick County, Virginia, preceded her in death in 1978.
Surviving are two sons, William T. Swimley, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Frederick County, Virginia, Gerald S. Swimley, and wife, Donna, of Elkton, Virginia; three grandchildren, William T. Swimley, III, and wife Kristin, Christie R. Jensen, and husband, Clint, and Noah S. Swimley; three great-grandchildren, Sierra Rose Jensen, Ella Swimley and William T. Swimley, IV; a sister, Betty Ann Livengood, and husband, James, of Berryville, Virginia, and brother, John W. “Jack” Duvall, and wife, Polly, of Frederick County, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Fishpaw, Dorothy Duvall, Margaret Duvall and Jean Duvall; nine brothers Reginald, Weedon, Donald, Richard, Ferman, Charles, Braxton, Louis and Robert.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Stephen Melester officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
