Catherine D.” Kay” Mikolay, age 94, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 in Hilltop Senior Living, Winchester, Virginia.
Catherine was born January 12, 1928, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Lena (Russo) Nilio. She lived in Belleville, New Jersey for 34 years. She was employed with and retired from her Administrative Assistant duties at Bobst Group Inc. in Roseland, New Jersey. Then in 1996, she moved to Little River, South Carolina where she resided for the next 25 years. Catherine attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She loved spending time with family and friends. She exuded so much energy in baking, her time at the beach, and traveling with her husband.
Catherine married Edward M. Mikolay on February 3, 1951 in New Jersey. Edward preceded her in death on December 31, 2007. Catherine loved her grandchildren and great-grand babies, watching endless Hall Mark movies and having lunch at the beach with her husband.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Deborah Wacker (Dieter); grandchildren, Derek Wacker (Jaclyn) and Krista Browne (Alan); great grandchildren Justin and Dylan Browne; brother, Nicholas Nilio (Angela); sister-in-law, Patricia Nilio and her many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Catherine is preceded in death by her two sisters and their husbands, Lucille Mikolay (John) and Angelina Mikolay (James) and her brother Michael Nilio. The Nilio and Mikolay families were united by the three Nilio sisters marrying the three Mikolay brothers.
A service will be Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1100 8th Ave N, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
