Caroline “Carole” M. Calder, 85, of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 21, 2023. She was born December 15, 1937 in Front Royal the daughter of the late Addison Marrow Sr. and Jane (Meredith) Marrow.
Carole worked as one of the Office Manager’s for Dr. Gregory Kujala where she would eventually retire. Carole was a parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. Carole loved spending time with her family and always enjoyed cooking and baking. She even made a cookbook for her children and grandchildren entitled “Cooking with Mimommy” in which she passed down family recipes/stories and her very own favorite dishes for her family to enjoy for many years to come. She loved her home and would always have it very well decorated for everyday of the year. Carole also enjoyed bringing people together, watching her favorite cooking shows, watching Hallmark holiday movies, sewing, knitting, crafting, reading , doing word games and playing board games especially beating the men in the game Pegs and Jokers. She also enjoyed going to the beach and watching the ocean tide come and go.
She married the love of her life Michael “Ian” Calder on July 2, 1976 at Riverton United Methodist Church in Front Royal. She and Ian then said their vows once again on September 28, 2012 this time at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, with Father Krempa officiating.
Along with her loving husband, Carole is also survived by her daughter Sara D’Amato (Michael); her son Clay Gilliam (Kathy); grandchildren Samantha Gilliam, Kaitlin Neumann (Kyle), Elizabeth Puleo (Stephen) and Andrew D’Amato (Diona); her great granddaughter Rayaeh Gilliam as well as another great granddaughter on the way Isabella Caroline Puleo; her sister Margie Presgraves (Randy); and her brother Jimmy Marrow (Dee).
In addition to her parents, Carole was also preceded in death by her two sons, Rene Gilliam and Scott Gilliam; her sister Nancy Bauserman and her husband Cecil; and her brother Addison Marrow Jr. and his wife Jinx.
Relatives and friends are invited to join in remembering Carole on Monday, February 27, from 5pm-8pm at the Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28, at 11:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Vaccaro officiating.
