Carmen J. Rioux, 80, of Middletown, Virginia died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Rioux was born in 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Jose B. and Edith B. Calva. She graduated from George Mason University earning a BA degree in Psychology. Ms. Rioux retired from the Fairfax Health Department where she was an Infant Educator to children with special needs. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Front Royal, Virginia.
Carmen helped many children with disabilities and their families over the years. She was an inspirational educator and source of advocacy, guidance, and comfort to many. She lived and worked for many years in Fairfax Virginia and moved to Middletown Virginia when she retired.
Ms. Rioux married her long-time partner, Kristin Ives, on October 30, 2014 in Front Royal, Virginia.
Ms. Rioux is survived by her spouse Kris; daughters, Carmen Flore Rioux-Bailey of Washington, D.C., Therese Edith Corsepius (Richard) of Vienna, Virginia, Catherine Marie Manieri of Manassas, Virginia; sons, Robert Charles Rioux (Lidia) of Vienna, Virginia and Richard Walter Rioux of Reston, Virginia; sisters, Florence Tinker of Houston, Texas and Paquita Calva of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Ms. Rioux was preceded in death by her first spouse, Robert L. Rioux, her daughter, Jaqueline Elise, and brother, William Calva.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel in Winchester, VA with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. A reception will follow immediately at the funeral home.
