Byrd F. Fugitt
Byrd Franklin Fugitt, 84, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, July 8, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Fugitt was born in 1929 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Frederick and Ida Catherine Fugitt. He was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1949. Mr. Fugitt was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a Phone Technician with Verizon, formerly known as C&P of Virginia, retiring after 40 years of service. Mr. Fugitt was dedicated lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. Byrd was loving and compassionate man and was known for the love of his family. In his spare time he enjoyed working with wood and miscellaneous home repairs.
He married Mary Jagiello on November 20, 1954, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are son, Joseph Franklin Fugitt and wife, Marian, of Tallahassee, Florida; two daughters, Anna Margaret Fugitt of Lewes, Delaware, Marie Christine Fugitt of Fairfax, Virginia; and his sister, Jane Fugitt Morrison of Berryville, Virginia. Four sisters, Helen Fugitt Reardon, Dixie Fugitt Carter, Nancy Fugitt Corron and Anna Fugitt Lineberg, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
