Broaddus Richard Welsh, 86, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, in Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Welsh, was born in 1929, in White Post, Virginia, the son of the late, Broaddus E. Welsh and Madeline F. Welsh. He was a graduate of Boyce Agricultural High School, class of 1947. Following high school Junior worked closely with his father in carpentry renovating many homes and farms including places such as the historic Long Branch. He was an U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Junior later was employed with the Abex Corporation, shipping department and retired in 1991 after 37 years of dedicated service. Junior will forever be remembered for his love of family, woodworking, and his unique ability to fix anything. His family will treasure their memories of his personality including his “can do” attitude, his generosity, his quirky sense of humor, and most importantly his humility. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Welsh married Mary Ann DeHaven, on May 8, 1954, in Winchester, Virginia. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Surviving are his two daughters, Carol W. Culp of High View, West Virginia, and Pamela Jordan with her husband Brian, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; brother, Orra L. Welsh with his wife Camilla of Berryville, Virginia; his four grandchildren, Guy R. Culp, Stephen J. Culp, Karla L. Culp, and Grady A. Jordan; one great grandchild, James R. Culp, as well as many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Julian Lee M. Welsh.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, October 26, at Omps Funeral Home South Chapel.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with funeral celebrant Timothy L. Grum officiating. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Military Honors will be afforded by the V. F. W. Post # 2123.
Memorial contributions in Junior’s name should be as he would say… save it for your next repair.
