Beverly Collins Clark of White Post, VA passed away at her home on September 5, 2024, after a recent illness. She was predeceased by her husband, David Clark, with whom she enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 66 years. She was born in Parkersburg, WV, the daughter of Roger Gail and Dorothy Collins, and was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Jean Collins Busch.
Beverly is survived by her three children: David of Richmond, Lindsey (Steve) of Carrboro, NC, and Gary (Marie) of Sykesville, MD; and grandchildren: Geneva (Matthew), Jamie, Drew, Gabi (Cameron), Isabella, and Brody. She also leaves behind her (and Dave’s) beloved dog, Rocky, who served as mascot for the First Baptist Church of Winchester Chancel Choir and was a Good Boy at many rehearsals.
Beverly graduated from West Virginia University in 1958 with a bachelors’ degree in organ performance, having received a full scholarship. She obtained a Master’s degree from Shenandoah University in 1998. She was long-time member of the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, serving as dean and performing in many concerts.
Beverly began her professional music career at age 15, with her first church organist position, and continued in the field the rest of her life. She served as organist and/or music director at many churches, including most recently First Baptist Church of Winchester as well as at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Middleburg, Front Royal Presbyterian Church, Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, and St. Paul’s United Methodist in Parkersburg, WV. Beverly and Dave were active in music throughout their lives, including membership in the Loudoun Chorale and the Parkersburg, WV Choral Society.
They loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe, where Italy and England were favorites, as well as to Normandy and Panama. As an enormous fan of Johann Sebastian Bach, Beverly also travelled to Germany several times with fellow musicians and not only visited many churches where Bach played, but also played one of the same organs. Beverly and Dave also were fascinated with local history, and were quite knowledgeable of Revolutionary War and Civil War events in the area. Both were voracious readers, and Beverly was a big fan of mysteries and crossword puzzles.
Beverly was enormously proud of her family and was an enthusiastic fan at countless sports events, concerts, dance recitals, and graduations. We will cherish her memory and miss her immensely.
Donations in Beverly’s memory may be made to the Clarke County Animal Shelter and to the Winchester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
