Bettie L. Reed

        Bettie Lee Barney Reed, 84, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, June 9, 2014 in a local assisted living facility.

Mrs. Reed was born on November 29, 1929, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James E. and Helen Barney. In 1947 she graduated from Fairfax High School and spent her formative years and much of her adult years in Vienna, Virginia.  She was long time member of the organization Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) and was honored for her 20 year record of maintaining her ideal weight. Bettie enjoyed reading and crewel.  She retired from the Banking Industry in the 1970’s.  Mrs. Reed was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Stephenson, Virginia.  She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who rarely missed a holiday with her children.

She married Darald J. Reed on May 5, 1979.

Surviving with her husband are her children by a previous marriage,  her daughter, Brenda S. Hileman-Howe, and her husband, William, of Gerrardstown, West Virginia; son, James D. Hileman and wife, Pamela, of Midland, Virginia; two grandchildren, J. Bryan Hileman of Midland, Daniel P. Hileman and wife, Courtney, of Woodbridge and brother, Ray Barney of Round Hill, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Paulo Da Silva and Reverend Larry Clark officiating.  Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
