Audrey “Bonnie” Arbutus Carpenter Penwell, 89, of Stephens City, Virginia died Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Penwell was born in 1925 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Dewey and Magdalene Carpenter. She was a homemaker, and the life she lived was truly for the love of her family.
She married Clenzy Penwell, Sr. on June 3, 1945 in Winchester, Virginia, he preceded her in death on April 12, 1974. Bonnie’s long-time love, Guy “Budy” Crews, preceded her in death as well in February of 2009.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Nordman and husband, Bill of Stephens City, Virginia, Sharleen Bodkins and husband, Gerald, of Lexington, Tennessee, Sue Wellershaus of Gaithersburg, Maryland; son, Clenzy “Ray” Penwell, Jr., and wife, Nancy, of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Denis, Mike, Mary, Margaret, Lisa, Shannon, Robbie, Jenna, Hallie, Cody, Bryan, Jason and Travis; nineteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her sister, Frances Cochran of Sarasota, Florida and Brother, Richard Carpenter of Winchester, Virginia.
One grandchild, Leslie, two sisters, Julia Wilson and Geraldine Purtlebaugh and three brothers, Walter, Dewey, Jr. and Charles Carpenter, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 1:00-2:00 PM, prior to the service, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Chaplain Kenneth Patrick officiating. Entombment will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Denis Doherty, Mike Doherty, Travis Brewer, Bryan Helmick, Cody Penwell and Brian Testerman.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 300 Fort Collier Road, Winchester, Virginia, 22603 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
