Annette Lynes Whitley went to be with her Lord February 6, 2017. She was born in Lenoir, North Carolina in 1939, the daughter of the late Mabel Carlton Hunt and Leroy Lynes. She lived most of her adult life between Charlotte, North Carolina and Winchester, although she did live in Strasburg, VA for 10 years and was very involved in the community. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her various careers included the car business in parts and service at Lamar Sloan Ford, an over the road truck driver for 10 years and a mortgage processor for 15 years. She was a 30 year recovered alcoholic who helped many people in the Charlotte area get sober. She loved her church families including Clearbook, MT Hope and Middletown Presbyterian churches. She was an avid reader as well. She will be missed by so many and was such a strong person overcoming a lot in her life.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Kenneth Whitley. She had 3 sons from her previous late husband, Lamar Sloan; Alan and David Sloan who preceded her in death and surviving son, Doug Sloan and wife, Jaime who live in Stephens City where Annette lived the last year of her life. She has several grandchildren, Brian Sloan and wife, Catherine and Matthew Sloan and wife, Karla and their sister, Nancy Bell and husband, Patrick; granddaughter, Taylor Dalton and husband, Josh Dalton; grandsons, Austin, Lance and Brett Sloan; step-grandchildren, Cole, Abby, and Jack Talton; great grandchildren, Christopher, Logan, and Angel Bell, Addison Sloan, and Allison Dalton. She was a true animal lover and loved Chewy and Lilly, her dogs.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with a service to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rose Wayland officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia
