Anne M Heffernan

Anne Marie McCarthy Heffernan, 86, of Springfield, Virginia, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center, Winchester, Virginia.

Mrs. Heffernan was born in 1925, in New York, New York, the daughter of the late James and Anna McCarthy. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. Mrs. Heffernan was a graduate of George Mason University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree.

Her husband, Frank John Heffernan, whom she married on March 7, 1944, preceded her in death on Mary 23, 1983.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann Foreman and her husband, John, of Winchester, Virginia, Patrice Nelson and husband, Scott, of Berryville, Virginia; three sons, Sean Heffernan of Boston, Massachusetts, Paul Heffernan and wife, Sue, of Mineral, Virginia; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Her son, Michael Patrick Heffernan, granddaughter, Kristin Jacobs; sister Helen Oswald and brother, John McCarthy, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Father Michael Dobbins officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
