Alvin R. Bly
Alvin Richard Bly, 86, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Bly was born in 1927, in Strasburg, Virginia, the son of the late Raymond H. and Katie M. Bly. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Bly was employed as a diesel mechanic and truck driver. Alvin will forever be remembered for the love of his family, friends and fishing. He was known for his big heart and generosity.
The Bly family wishes to offer the most sincere gratitude and appreciation to Daughter-in-law Connie Bly for the years of caretaking and unconditional love she has provided as well as Gary Ferrebee for the dedicated friendship he has provided for so many years.
Mr. Bly married Elsie Ratchford Bly who preceded him in death.
Surviving is two sons Richard “Dickie” Bly, Middletown, Virginia, Terry Leon Bly and wife, Connie, Stephenson, Virginia; step-daughter Judy Carper and husband, Joe, Middletown, Virginia; two step-sons Kermit Ratchford, Sr., Winchester, Virginia, Darrell Ratchford and wife, Ann, of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren, as well as numerous great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren, brother Robert E. Bly, Timberville, Virginia; sister Louise Baker, Winchester, Virginia, as well as many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by step-son Ronald Ratchford, sister Betty Andrick, great grandson Bradley Wayne Bly and great granddaughter, Jennifer Ratchford.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with Rev. Bobby Jenkins and Rev. Don Stotler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middletown, Virginia. Military Honors will be afforded by V.F.W. Post #2123.
