Albert Franklin Martin, III 72 of Winchester, VA passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at his home.
Albert was born in 1949 in Winchester, VA the son of the late Albert Franklin Martin, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Thomas) Martin. He played football and graduated from John Handley High School, Class of 1969 and served our country during the Vietnam Era as Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps where he was awarded the Rifle Expert Badge. He was employed as a Detention Specialist at Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center from March 13, 2006 until his retirement on March 1, 2020. Albert was a lifetime member of St. Paul AME Church where he was the President of the Usher Board, Pro Tem of the Trustee Board, a member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Culinary Ministry. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Albert was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed all sports. Albert played trumpet in the Douglas High School band, and local bands, Shadows of Soul and Black Rock. He had a love for helping those in need. Albert was a loving father, grandfather, brother and good friend to anyone he met.
He is survived by his lifelong partner, Della Reese Martin; sons, Albert “Marty” Martin, IV (Nicole) of Washington, DC, Justin Cyrus Martin of Winchester, VA; daughter, Deborah (Deci) Mason of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Sean Mason of Winchester, VA, Campbell and Madison Martin both from Washington DC; step daughters, Niesha Gatling of Martinsburg, WV, Tasha Walker (Darrell) of Woodbridge, VA; step grandchildren, Tamara Parchment of Kentucky, Rohan Parchment of Stafford, VA and Nyvea Gatling of Martinsburg, WV; sister, Cynthia Banks (William) of Winchester, VA; brother, John Martin, Sr. (Gwendolen) of Winchester, VA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Albert is preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Parker.

A visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10am with a service to follow at 11am held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Interment will be in Orrick Cemetery with Military Honors.
