Adolene S. Long, a beloved resident of Winchester, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the amazing age of 99, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center. She was surrounded by her devoted family.

Adolene was born in 1926 in Bridgewater, VA, the daughter of the late Norton Clay Shull Sr., and Iris Marie (Barr) Shull. Upon graduating from John Handley High School in 1944 she started working as a secretary at the Handley Library. After raising her children, she began working at Pifer Office Supply, where she retired as President in 2015 at the age of 89. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.

Adolene was a member of the Glen Burnie Garden Club where she was also a Board Member, the Early Bird Bowling League and belonged to the Valley Health Fitness and Wellness Center. She loved spending time in Ocean City Maryland and was also blessed to be able to travel the world with her neighbor Louise Speakman and other good friends during her lifetime.

She is survived by her children, Beverly “Bev” Sutler (Larry) and Terry Long (Rebecca); grandchildren, Donna Shrout (Rick), Denise Solan (Brian), Ricky Shickle (Ashley), Derreck Long (Andrea) and Trever Long (Laura); 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandson and a brother, Norton “Pete” Shull, Jr. (Janice) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Adolene is preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Shull Wiener, Connie Shull Cochran and brothers, Howard Owen Shull and James “Jim” Gibson Shull.

A visitation will be held for Adolene on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm with a service the following day, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Spring Arbor Senior Living of Winchester and Blue Ridge Hospice for the wonderful care they gave our mother.
