Carol Rivas 72, of Winchester passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center.

Carol was born in 1949 in Nash County, NC to the late James David and Annie Mae (Parker) Brown. She was a graduate of Bunn High School in Nash County, North Carolina. Mrs. Rivas retired after 48 years as an Accounts Payable Clerk for Longley Supply in New Bern, NC. She was a people person who was always vibrant and a lot of fun. She loved to be on the go traveling with her best friends and was always up for an adventure. Carol loved playing board games, loved baking but above all else she loved Jesus and her heart’s desire was for her friends and family to do the same.

Carol married Rolando Rivas in August 1999 in New Bern, NC, and he preceded her in death on February 9, 2020.

Mrs. Rivas is survived by two daughters: Patricia S. Camp (Shane) and Vickie E. Leake (Jonathan); seven grandchildren: Brittany Allen, David Leake (Marjorie), Austin Allen, Joshua Leake, Josiah Leake, Patrick Leake, and Jonathan D. Leake; four great-grandchildren: Cooper, Tessa, Kinzley, and Walter; her best friends and traveling companions: Carol Leake and Barbara Ann Kinton; her brother, Donnie R. Brown; and her beloved cat, “L.B.”

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 11 at 11:30am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel and will be officiated by Carol’s son-in-law, Jonathan Leake.

I love you mom and was not ready for you to go. I miss you and always will. I am comforted in knowing you are with the Lord and are free of any pain and burdens. LB is missing you and has poured much. There is no one like you in his world!?

Carol you were a good coworker when I worked with you at Longley but most importantly a sister in the Lord. Looking forward to seeing you again with our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!

Pam & I were saddened to hear about Carol's death, but happy for her heavenly reward! So sorry we couldn't be with you but know you have our most sincere condolences and prayers!

Vicki and family. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Carol. She was the sweetest lady. I worked with her at Pak a Sak and then later in life worked with Pete at Hatteras. Our paths seem to always cross. She loved all of you very much. I am praying for all of you!

Carol was my sister in law for 11 years but she was my friend for 43 years. We were separated by distance these last few years but I never stopped counting her as my friend. We weathered many storms together that only she and I could talk about. Rest Easy my friend. I'm a little jealous that you got there before I did.

We are so sorry to hear about Ms. Carol. When she was in New Bern we attended church together. She was a wonderful friend and we were looking forward for her coming back to visit. One of the highlights we have of her is gathering with a group of friends for lunch on Sundays following church. She was a most pleasant lady and we both value her friendship and are very grateful the Lord allowed our paths to cross. I am in shock at the passing of my friend Carol! We had a special bond sharing our good times and challenging times! We talked ,texted or messaged every week! We went on Cruise together and loved to go out and eat! She loved her new home and her cat LB!!Carol loved her family and was so proud of her grandsons! She most of all loved her Lord and served him ! She will be missed but we know she is at peace with no more pain! We will meet again my friend!
